Joanna Borov: Beauty is Truth

Before the sensitive movement entitled “political correctness,” it was not uncommon for articles to highlight the academic accomplishments of supermodels as if intelligence was an anomaly or some highlight from the talent portion of a beauty pageant. In contemporary culture, it’s downright insulting.

So, I was not surprised to learn about Polish supermodel Joanna Borov’s academic career. Our conversation was intellectually stimulating, eclectic and in no way superficial. Her accomplishments in the classroom as well as on the runway both deserve praise. Joanna earned two master’s degrees from University of the Arts London and University of Warsaw. Equally impressive, she also won two beauty pageants: Miss Motors F1 Silverstone and World Beauty Queen Poland. She also represented Poland in the World Final in Korea, and judged many pageants as an expert in her field.

Joanna has graced the covers of many renowned publications, including British Vogue, Ukraine Playboy, Maxim New Zealand, L’Official, Elegant, and Marie Claire. She has attended Fashion Week in London, Paris, New York and Los Angeles. Her Instagram page screams top model as she walks the streets of foreign cities, makes time stand still in an infinity pool, plays with her pet Chihuahuas and flashes vogue with her long, silky blond hair and crystal blue eyes. 

“I’d say that moving to the US to develop my career,” stated Joanna, “has been the biggest adventure. The fashion market here is different than in Europe, so it’s been difficult at times, but also enjoyable and rewarding.”

So, what lay ahead for Joanna? She is working on her own cookbook. “Regarding my cookbook – I’m still working on it. I am actually modifying my diet recently and observing the results. I hope to be done with it and publish it by the end of the year.”
